About Tarkett

With roots in woodworking dating back to 1885, Tarkett has been operating under its brand name for flooring solutions since 1946. Today, Tarkett is a global leader in innovative flooring, employing 12,000 people across 34 production sites—including in Belgium—and delivering 1.3 million m² of flooring daily to over 100 countries. Its extensive product range includes sustainable flooring for various sectors, with a strong focus on well-being and environmental responsibility.

Project Objective

Tarkett aimed to digitalize several processes on the production floor. Paper-based registrations needed to be eliminated, and faster access to key data for reporting and decision-making was desired. The project focused on saving time and gaining better insights into production data through data consistency.

This two-phase project shows that initial steps towards digitalisation on the shop floor can be very accessible. If chosen wisely, they quickly deliver measurable results and gain support from both management and production staff.

Implementation

  • The first phase centred on production time registration. Employees can now use a user-friendly system to search for colleagues and orders, start and stop time tracking, and perform and record quality checks. This digitalisation significantly simplified daily operations.
  • Phase 2 expanded the quality control process. The traditional paper-based workflow was thoroughly analysed and redesigned using a mini co-creation model. User-friendliness and data analysis were key priorities, resulting in a data model optimised for analysis.

Axians designed wireframes and screen mockups for both phases, which were validated together with Tarkett. These served as the foundation for the development of the digital solution. Development was carried out in short sprints, with regular feedback sessions involving end users.

Outcome

This iterative approach delivered a tailor-made solution in a short timeframe. It provides Tarkett with reliable insights and supports process and quality improvements.
